What to expect: our guide to your next garage door installation from NationServe!

You’re finally ready to invest in a new garage door, and you have an idea of what you want it to look like. So how do you get the design and installation process started? How long will the process take, and will you need to install the garage door yourself? At NationServe, we’re committed to making the selection and installation of garage doors as painless as possible for our clients. Once you’ve chosen the panel and window design and material for your garage door, you can sit back and relax while our certified technicians do the work. Whether you’re located in rainy Spokane Valley, sunny Albuquerque, or somewhere else around the country, our team members will guide you through each step of the installation process. Keep reading for a brief overview of everything you need to know about our garage door installations.

Step 1: Style selection

The most important part of getting a new garage door begins well before the door is installed. The materials and design that you choose will be part of your house for years to come and can dramatically increase your property’s curb appeal. At NationServe, we know that many people these days want more than just the standard white door. That’s why we offer such a wide variety of styles and materials. We want you to be able to tailor your Wayne Dalton garage door so that it’s just right for your home.

When designing your garage door through NationServe, you’ll be able to choose from six different materials: steel, aluminum, glass, fiberglass, vinyl, and wood. You’ll also be able to customize your door by selecting from different colors and different panel styles and choosing whether to add windows or decorative hinges or handles.

Although some people prefer the classic look of handcrafted wood and carriage house steel doors, others prefer the sleek, modern look of glass. Designer Fiberglass can be a more affordable, lightweight, and energy-efficient alternative to wood, while specialty vinyl is extremely durable, insulating, and eco-friendly.  The choices you make will depend on your needs, budget, and preferences.

You can design your door by working with a member of one of our local NationServe teams or by using the interactive Wayne Dalton design tool on our website. Upload a picture of your home to find the style that works best with the overall design of your house. To see what some of our doors look like up close, visit a showroom near you.

Step 2: Purchase and pre-installation inspection

As soon as your door is customized to your satisfaction and ready for purchase, we’ll arrange for one of our NationServe technicians to inspect your property in preparation for the installation. Please ensure your garage is free of obstructions so that our people have a safe workspace. We’ll also prepare you for what to expect when it comes time to deliver and install the door.

Step 3: Delivery and installation

At NationServe, our garage door installations are performed by experienced technicians who will work with you to make sure the door meets your expectations. The installation will begin by removing your old garage door (please speak with our team about how your existing door will be disposed) and end by thoroughly testing your new door to make sure it’s functioning smoothly and safely.

Step 4: Maintenance

During the installation process, our technicians will be happy to answer any questions you have about your new garage door and offer advice on how to maintain it. To keep your door in good shape, check out our tips on garage door maintenance. If you have any serious concerns about your garage door after it’s installed, schedule a service appointment with one of our technicians as soon as possible.

Can I install my garage door myself?

Some people attempt to install their garage doors themselves, but we really don’t recommend it.  Garage doors are very heavy and held under extreme tension by cables and springs. If something in the apparatus snaps, it could send the entire door crashing down on you. Unless you’re certified or you’ve worked with garage door systems professionally, you could be putting you and your family in serious danger. Without the right expertise, it’s also easy to put together the garage door incorrectly, which could result in the door malfunctioning and breaking down. A DIY installation could end up costing you more in repairs and maintenance than it would have cost to install it professionally.

There are many benefits to having a professional install your garage door. Our certified technicians have the skills and experience to get the job done without injury and will be sure to perform quality work in a timely manner.
